This issue contains stories on a presentation by Robert Chicca, a crewmember of the USS Pueblo, which was captured by the North Korean military in January 1968; formation of the new Black Vietnam Veterans of Tacoma (BVVT), founder/president Louis Smith, and goal of constructing a monument for Black veterans; fundraising by the Washington Association of Community College Student Governments (WACCSG) for lobbying; a soccer team loss against Skagit Valley; the cross country team placing eighth at the state community college meet; an upcoming Sports Car Club autocross, the "Turkey Shoot"; the upcoming first meet for the karate team; an upcoming cabaret by Los Unidos, cosponsored with the Auto Club and the 21 Club; performances of The Crucible; an upcoming presentation by Dr. Patricia Smith on her medical work in Vietnam; the bookstore, including space issues, heavy sales of clay, and policy discussions; an upcoming presentation by University of California, Santa Barbara science professor Dr. Norman K. Sanders on pollution; the upcoming TCC Coffeehouse; a sign language night class; results of a questionnaire to older students at the college; formation of a new group to work with developmentally disabled children and adults; special assistant to the TCC president Dr. Richard C. Falk writing on the need for community colleges to distinguish themselves from four year college.
Also includes editorial on an upcoming trial for seven people charged with conspiring to damage federal property at the courthouse in Seattle; guest editorial by the Revolutionary Socialists on tactics for making change; ads, including for mail order contraceptives; comics; "As Eye See It" student government column, with topics including the TCC Coffeehouse, an Obi Society-sponsored food drive, the need for a student union building, The Crucible, and the Procrastinators' Club of America; announcements of the opening for Challenge editor, three students being awarded associate memberships in the Tacoma Ad Club, an upcoming Thanksgiving dance with music by Academy, financial aid deadlines and procedures, an art show at the Tacoma Allied Arts Gallery featuring work by three TCC art instructors; Arts and Literature section with poetry, photos; ads and classified ads; the bookstore refund policy.
Supplement is entitled TCC Today, published by the Tacoma Community College as a supplement to the Collegiate Challenge during Community College Week (November 16-20, 1970). Prepared by Dale Wirsing, assisted by Dennis Hale. The supplement includes stories on new courses in human relations, foreign relations; adult education courses planned for a new, small learning center in the South End; the new Weekend College program for students with Monday through Friday jobs; financial crisis in the community colleges, as represented by director of the state community college system Dr. A. A. Canfield; non-credit curriculum and tentative upcoming schedule. Also includes photos of courses, labs, sports; a map of eight locations where courses are taught; photos and article demonstrating the range of students who attend TCC.
