Student newspaper of the Tacoma Community College. This issue is numbered volume 5, number 21 (actually the 22nd issue) and is twelve pages.
This issue contains stories on the newly elected student body president Barry Sheridan; unannounced visits from three Pierce County legislators at the Board of Trustees meeting following a two day suspension of classes (in response to protests and violence on US college campuses) in May, and other Board meeting business; Italian student Lucianes Stephanie; end of sports season with the tennis team tying for fifth, the track team placing eleventh, and the golf team placing third in their respective state tournaments; Don Moseid speaking on next year's prospects for the men's basketball team; 31 athletes receiving letterman jackets; a new Human Relations 100 course; the art department's annual art show; the student senate meeting, including discussion of possible investment in a mountain pass chalet, a failed motion to freeze the Challenge's funds; the raku process in Mr. Rhea's ceramics class.
Also includes editorials on the violence around the world and non-violent engagement at TCC, an attempt to freeze the Challenge's funds in retaliation for an article; letters to the editor responding to a piece in the previous issue about white students discussing equal rights, commending student representatives at the Community College State Convention, thanking the Challenge staff, expressing gratitude for the closure day discussions and absence of certain faculty, the proposed Human Relations 100 course; a list of all graduating students and their degrees; "With My Boots On" column with "parting shots" to various students, instructors, administrators, and other figures; the commencement graduation ceremony, which was voluntary for the first time; announcement of a student art show; art and literary page with poetry, photographs, images of sculptural works, a call for submissions to "The Mirror"; a photo marking the graduation of the first person to earn a degree through the extension program at McNeil Island Federal Penitentiary; a guest editorial on Senator Robert Kennedy.
