Student newspaper of the Tacoma Community College. This issue is numbered volume IV, number 22 (actually the 23rd issue of the academic year) and is twelve pages.
This issue contains stories on the progress (or lack of) toward Obi's demands, with dual interviews with Obi Society Chairman James Walton and TCC President Dr. Thornton Ford, as well as interviews with Black and white students; the upcoming (mandatory) commencement ceremony; forensics team members earning National Community College Forensics Tournament certificates of excellence; representatives attending the Washington Association of Community College Student Governments (WACCSTG) conference with TCC students taking several honors, including election of Phil Shinn as Central Region Chairman and state chairman, student Bonnie Winston winning runner-up in the Miss Washington Community College pageant, election of Activities Coordinator Paula Eisenman to the advisers board, and a commendation to student body President Ross Briggs; community colleges news, including the erroneous report by the Vancouver college newspaper that the Challenge had won a first place prize (they won second); a petition from students asking for legal action against "disruption" following the fight on campus; proposal of a new class by political science instructor John Swarthout and Obi chairman Jim Walton on contemporary Black problems and politics; the track team going to the Washington State Community College tournament; the tennis team's ongoing participation in the Washington Community College Championships; the golf team winning third place in the state tournament; David D. Woods speaking at an ad hoc campus gathering on Tacoma issues; freedom of speech and violence; hiking Mt. Pete; "strangers" in the parking lot; the police response to the "Hilltop disturbance"; the Model United Nations Club's attendance of the Far West Conference in California; a new Marine Corps program for men without baccalaureate degrees to become commissioned officers; an upcoming Artist and Lecture series concert by the University of Puget Sound Concert Band; the creation of a new Math Lab by Dean of Instruction Dr. Paul E. Betz being chosen to attend a math institute at the University of Oregon; editorial commending Records Officer Joseph Kosai on his deescalation of the police presence at the fight at the rock; a guest editorial on the "War on Poverty"; a headline "Laviola Condemned" marked "Censored" and an accompanying drawing; a letter to the editor about the proposed Communications Club; an "In Memorium" notice for James Rector of Berkeley, California killed by police; Art and Literary Supplement with poetry; an interview with sophomore class representative Dave De Forrest.
